Human Rights Situation of LGBTI people in Albania

This research report is a summary of the living conditions of LGBTI people based on qualitative and quantitative data collected by Alliance against Discrimination LGBT. An online survey was conducted with members of the LGBTI community. The report provides information on discrimination, hate crimes, access to health services, experiences with emploument and housing and perceptions of well-being.

Access to health services and quality of care for LGBT persons in Albania

Despite various problems faced by the Albanian health system and reforms that have been undertaken in recent years in this regard, so far it has not been undertaken any strategy, action plan or in-depth assessment of the health system with focus on the respecting of the rights of LGBT persons. For this reason, the Ombudsman and ‘Alliance against LGBT discrimination’, supported by the Council of Europe Office in Tirana, undertook this study, which aims to evaluate the issues related to access and quality of health services for LGBT persons in Albania.

NDI Public Opinion Poll in the Balkans on LGBTI Communities

The NDI poll was conducted in summer 2015 in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia in coordination with Ipsos Research. The poll was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with additional financial support from the U.S.-based Victory Institute and Sweden’s Civil Right Defenders and pro bono technical support from Grindr for Equality.
