Spotlight Report on the Position of LGBTI Persons in North Macedonia

ERA – LGBTI Equal Rights Association for Western Balkans and Turkey, in close partnership with its member organisations Colaition Margins, LGBTI Support Centre and Subversive Front from North Macedonia, is submitting this report under the paragraph 89 of the 2030 Agenda, which focuses on the analysis of the position of LGBTI persons in the country in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 16 and 17, as well as the situation on COVID-19 crisis.

Chemsex - Starting a conversation

Chemsex is defined as “the use of specific drugs (“Chems”) in modern, smartphone-age sexual contexts by gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, and trans persons”. Problematic ChemSex – not drug use and sex per see - are associated with various harms such as a rise in HIV, hepatitis and STI transmissions as well as addictive practices, depression, psychosis, criminal activity and death from overdose or suicide, particularly when involving the use of crystal meth and the injecting of substances.
