Association of LBTIQ Women STANA

Montenegrin LBTQ women association Stana is an LBTQ women’s association based in Montenegro, working to increase the visibility, equality and protection of lesbian, bisexual, trans and queer women.

The organisation was established from the need to make LBTQ women more visible within both society and the wider LGBTIQ movement, growing out of the informal group kvirA with the support of Queer Montenegro and NGO Juventas.

Stana works at the intersection of LGBTIQ rights, women’s rights and gender equality, focusing on reducing homophobia, transphobia and misogyny, strengthening the participation of LBTQ women in decision-making and policy processes, and improving their access to health, mental health, social services and social protection. Stana also works to address gender-based violence and hate-motivated violence affecting LBTQ women, while creating space for queer art, culture and community-based initiatives that reflect the needs, experiences and voices of LBTQ women in Montenegro.
